Thomas Gunn Navigation Services Ltd have a dedicated digital department trained
in all aspects of digital products and services to assist with the transition from
paper to digital navigation and provide you with the most appropriate digital solution.
Thomas Gunn Navigation Services are official distributors for a wide range of electronic
charts, however our core formats are S57 Electronic Navigation Charts (ENC), Arcs
Raster Charts and C-Map Vector Charts. Each format has its own advantages and disadvantages
and the final choice often depends on the software in use, personal preference,
budget, chart coverage required and the requirement for regular chart updates.
Available Digital Chart Types:
AVCS - ADMIRALTY VECTOR CHART SERVICE
Overview
The Admiralty Vector Chart Service (AVCS) is a comprehensive, official, world-wide,
SOLAS carriage compliant vector chart service. The Service brings together Electronic
Navigational Charts (ENCs) from national Hydrographic offices around the world and
new ENC coverage produced by UKHO in co-operation with Foreign Governments to provide
comprehensive, official, worldwide coverage.
The Admiralty Vector Chart Service only contains ENC data that meets Safety of Life
at Sea (SOLAS) Carriage Requirements for use within Electronic Chart Display and
Information Systems (ECDIS).
AVCS provides cost-effective coverage of the world's major shipping routes, avoiding
the need to purchase unnecessary data. The Service is sold in Transit Folios, Regional
Folios, Port Folios and Individual ENC Units, offering the ultimate in purchase
flexibility.
Admiralty Vector Charts Advantages

Thailand, Vietnam only available with AVCS
- One single, efficient chart system
- Total flexibility to save you time and money - Coverage available on a 3, 6, 9 &
12 month basis to suit vessels trade
- Always up to date - Updates available on-line via e-mail or web service
- Admiralty Information Overlay for T & P Corrections etc - The only service that
provides this information

Licencing
AVCS licences are for a 12 month period, within which you will hold an AVCS media
pack, containing world-wide AVCS data, receive weekly updates to the AVCS data set
and have access to online updates through the Admiralty Updating Service. Within
the licence period, AVCS Folios and ENC Units can be added for periods of three,
six, nine or twelve months, where data supply agreements allow. This offers maximum
choice and the flexibility to match your chart holdings to your operational patterns.
ECDIS - ADMIRALTY ECDIS SERVICE
Overview
The Admiralty ECDIS Service combines the most accurate official vector and official
raster electronic charts available to deliver global electronic chart coverage in
a single, easy to manage package.
The Admiralty ECDIS Service provides ENCs where available and ARCS charts where
not. This IMO-approved combination enables shipping companies to reap the benefits
of ENCs while coverage is still growing, and helps to make the most of investment
in Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS).
Chart coverage in the ECDIS service is provided in 38 geographic areas - each geographic
area containing ENCs, where available, together with comprehensive ARCS coverage.
The geographic areas have been designed to simplify both the ordering process and
pricing, whilst minimising the number of ENCs and ARCS charts the vessel requires.
Within each area there are up to three separate folio categories: Transit Folio,
Standard Folio and Full Folio. These folio categories have been designed to appeal
to passenger liners, container ships, crude oil tankers, product tankers, chemical
carriers, gas carriers and UK ferries. It is anticipated that these folios will
not be as well suited to naval vessels, non-SOLAS tonnage, bulk carriers, coastal
traders or pleasure craft.
Licencing
ECDIS licences are for a 12 month period, within which you will hold a complete
set of Base disks containing every ENC and ARCS chart available within the service.
Access is provided by special folio 'unlock' (permit) keys, allowing you to carry
global coverage whilst only paying for the level of folio coverage you require.
Significantly, this allows the flexibility to upgrade coverage during a licence
period.
ARCS - ADMIRALTY RASTER CHART SERVICE
Overview
ARCS is the UKHO's paper chart portfolio presented in a digital format. Over 3000
charts provide extensive, official coverage of international commercial shipping
routes, main ports and harbours at a comprehensive range of scales. ARCS charts
are licensed on a chart by chart basis to give you maximum flexibility - you only
have to pay for the charts you need.
All ARCS charts have the same familiar image and use the same internationally recognised
symbology as Admiralty paper charts - making them the easy first step from chart
table to electronic navigation.
Licencing
ARCS licences are for a 12 month period, within which you will hold an ARCS media
pack, containing world-wide ARCS data, receive weekly updates to the ARCS data set
and have access to online updates through the Admiralty Updating Service. Within
the licence period, AVCS charts can be added for periods of three, six, nine or
twelve months, where data supply agreements allow. This offers maximum choice and
the flexibility to match your chart holdings to your operational patterns.

the differing needs of both the occasional leisure user and merchant marine vessels
operating on a world-wide basis.

The C-Map database is intended for use on advanced electronic charting and navigation
systems such as ECS and ECDIS, with the prosessing and display power necessary to
exploit the full potential of these advanced products.

and Information System (ECDIS) with C-MAP Professional's global vector chart database.
Licencing
C-Map chart coverage is devided into zones, areas and cells. The world is split
into 9 zones. Each zone is subdivided into areas. Zones or areas are based on a

pack, containing all available C-Map coverage. Updates are issued on CD every 3
months, however monthly updates are also available if required. Additional Zones
or Areas can be added to the licence during the subscription period. This offers
maximum choice and the flexibility to match your chart holdings to your operational
patterns.
